Clicks for Progress: Youth Digital Pathways to Sustainable Development
On 17 December 1999, the UN General Assembly, in its resolution 54/120, endorsed the recommendation from the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth held in Lisbon from 8 to 12 August 1998, calling for the declaration of 12 August as International Youth Day.
This day is commemorated annually to highlight youth issues within the international community and to celebrate the potential of youth as vital partners in today’s global society. Similar to other international observances, International Youth Day aims to educate the public on pressing issues, mobilize political will and resources to address global challenges, and celebrate humanity's achievements, serving as a compelling advocacy tool.
The day also provides a platform for various stakeholders to organize activities related to its theme. Organizations and offices within the United Nations system, along with governments, civil society, the public and private sectors, educational institutions, and citizens at large, utilize this international day as a springboard for awareness-raising initiatives.
