The United Nations Office of Tanzania has been carrying out Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) awareness-raising activities across the country. On the 4th of June, the UN had a joint event with the government through the Ministry of Finance to present the SDGs to the Members of Parliament (MPs) during a seminar held at the Msekwa hall within the Parliament premises and was presided by Hon. Tulia Ackson, the Deputy Speaker.
On the 6th and 7th June, the UN held awareness-raising events at the University of Dodoma where about 500 students and academicians were reached. The awareness presentations were done jointly by the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Alvaro Rodriguez and UN communication Specialist, Ms. Hoyce Temu.
“You have a very important role and responsibility towards your fellow youth as Youth Champions. The 500 youth and academicians have made a commitment to be advocates and ambassadors for the SDGs at home, their institutions and in their communities. In this way, the UN continues to assist Tanzanians men, women and youth to take responsibility for the implementation of activities in support of the Global Goals. As such responsibility for the Global Goals rest with all of us and especially the youth.” said Mr. Rodriguez while addressing the youth at the event.
The event which was attended by over 160 MPs delivered the SDGs message to the parliamentarians highlighting their roles and its alignment with the Five Years Development Plan.
