UN and FURSA to Continue Reaching Out to Youth

The United Nations in Tanzania and FURSA have renewed a strategic partnership to reach thousands of youth all across Tanzania. In Tanzania, youth make up two-thirds of the population. For the past year, UN Tanzania has been focusing on awareness-raising targeting youth across the country by partnering with various organizations and stakeholders such as YUNA, universities, colleges, secondary schools and through these partnerships United Nations has been able to increase Tanzanian youth’s understanding of the Global Goals and their responsibilities in the implementation of the Goals.

FURSA has been among these partners have worked together on a Global Goals Campaign with the UN in December of last year which covered the three regions of Dar es Salaam, Kigoma and Dodoma. This year the renewed partnership will see FURSA and the UN visit regions where select UN agencies are working in. These agencies include UNFPA, UNICEF, UNWOMEN, ILO and UNCDF and will be coordinated by the UN Resident Coordinator's Office under One UN. The UN will leverage FURSA's youth networks visit Arusha, Kigoma, Dodoma, Mbeya, Simiyu, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, to gain a better understand the challenges facing youth in the various regions. The partnership will see UN agencies rally the youth in tapping opportunities in their areas by complimenting work that the different agencies are doing and aligning their activities to the Global Goals

The partnership was officially announced last weekend in Morogoro and Arusha will be the first region visited by the UN and FURSA. In Morogoro, the UN will be focusing and apprenticeship programme that was recently launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and how young people can leverage apprenticeship opportunities as a means to gain experience that will help get them into the job market. These same youth will also be exposed to some of the work that ILO is doing to spur youth entrepreneurship in the region and nationally.
